700,000 free tickets to scenic spots in 2010

In an effort to encourage tourism, Beijing will offer 700,000 free entrance tickets to scenic spots by the end of 2010 and publish specific measures for the ticket allocation before May 1, said Zhang Huiguang, head of the Beijing Tourism Administration (BTA), on March 29.

The new ticket allocation measures will help tourists apply for tickets and prolong the validity period of the tickets.

"In the future, special ticket gates for electronic entrance tickets are likely to be established in order to make travel services more convenient, individualized and intellectualized, as well as to develop a low-carbon environmentally-friendly tourist industry," Zhang added. Earlier, the BTA allocated 300,000 electronic entrance tickets during the Spring Festival holiday.

Zhang said that the city has already had 66 tourist service stations that have serviced over 6.3 million tourists and distributed over 5.1 million tourist brochures. To offer tourists individualized consulting services by providing comprehensive, detailed and real information, Beijing will build a world-class travel consulting Web site that covers tourist resources in Beijing's various areas.

Tourists just need to click a destination area on the Web site, and they can access relevant travel information such as hotels, scenic spots, food and beverage. In addition, several hundred thousand "Tourist Brochures on Travel around Beijing City" will be handed out to local residents through community committees and "Tips on Independent Travel in Beijing" brochures will be allocated to foreigners at airports and some hotels.

The local municipal government is seeking public bids in an attempt to stage one or two large culture-themed shows aimed at tourists in the second half of 2010.

Get Free Hotel Stays with Wyndham's Best Rate Guarantee

Yesterday my super cheap ex-boyfriend told me that I would be proud of him. I asked him why and he told me that he will be staying in Washington DC hotels for free for three nights. I asked him how he managed that and he told me about the Best Rate Guarantee from Wyndham hotels.
Wyndham is a company that owns thousands of hotels and motels around the world. These hotels include the brands of Ramada, Howard Johnson, Baymont Inn & Suites, Super 8, Days Inn, Wingate by Wyndham, Knights Inn, AmeriHostInn, and Travelodge. Its Best Rate Guarantee (BRG for short) basically lets you stay for free for one night if you find a rate for their hotels that is lower than the price on Wyndham's site.
The basics rules are:
1) You must find a publicly available rate for a specific Wyndham hotel that is lower than Wyndham's posted rate for the same hotel.
2) The room type for the rate you find must match the room type on the Wyndham site.
3) You must book your reservation through one of Wyndham's hotel sites.
4) You must notify Wyndham of your claim within 24 hours of making the reservation and your reservation cannot be booked within 72 hours of arrival.
5) Only the first night is free for each eligible stay.
Of course, the secret sauce to taking advantage of the guarantee is finding the cheaper posted rates. You can look through sites like Kayak , Hotels.com  Expediaor HotelsCombined , but it could take time to find a cheaper rate for the hotel you are interested in. Fortunately, there is a great website called The Best Rate Guarantee Blog that posts many of these rates almost daily. Sometimes the competitor rates are only 99 cents cheaper than Wyndham's rates, but the guarantee is still honored and the customer gets a free night. When you plan well like the Frugal Travel Guy , you could get an entire vacation's hotel stays for free. You could also move around different Wyndham properties in the same city and get multiple nights for free. For example, the super cheap ex-boyfriend actually found three lower rates for three different hotels in the DC area and that is why he is getting three nights free.
I am not sure how long this guarantee will last, but while it is here you could save hundreds of dollars on your travels just by finding a better price online!
